Today a very weird problem started to occur, anytime I searched it was hijacked by SOMETHING which then sent my search result to this other search provider MaxAsk. Absolutely no clue what this is or who’s running it, sent me into quite a panic as this was all on my work laptop.
Luckily a reddit thread about this had already been created 2 months prior, so I was able to fix it quite easily.
Browser Extensions
It turns out, the browser extension Tab Color Picker had been taken over in some way to start redirecting users to another search provider anytime they used Bing. Presumably people that use Bing are an easier target and wouldn’t notice? I guess?
This extension was from the official Microsoft extension store, the fact that I wasn’t warned it’s been removed is exceptionally worrying.
